And we’re back. Here’s hoping you had a chance to sing along to the city’s best cover bands, bounce around with Big Freedia or maybe just catch a parade last week. If you’re looking for something to do away from the One True Route as Mardi Gras Day nears, look no further than this week’s picks for the best concerts in New Orleans.

Outside of the obvious events like Krewe of Muses, Krewe of Nyx and all the various parades and balls, there are still plenty of good, old-fashioned gigs to get a body going.

Monday, February 17

Remember: it’s a marathon, not a sprint. Ease into the week after Valentines with a great set from beloved local country act Blind Texas Marlin. They take over the front room of One Eyed Jacks on Monday for a mellow show that will nevertheless help with your early week blood flow.
What: Blind Texas Marlin
Where: One Eyed Jacks
When: 10 p.m.

Keep the country going with this week’s edition of the All Star Covered Dish Jamboree. If you happened to miss their Valentine’s Day dance at the Happyland Theater, make it up to yourself with this show at the Dragon’s Den with special guests Nora Brown, Feeding Leroy & The Haunted Hearts.

You’ll likely be out at Nyx trying to catch a purse instead of a cold. But just in case you don’t feel like throwing elbows with out-of-towners, you should know that Swamp Moves is here for you. Santos’ weekly jazz showcase over Decatur is still going strong, thanks to stiff drinks and the stylings of the Russel Welch Trio.
What: Swamp Moves
Where: Santos
When: 10 p.m.

Thursday, February 20

Here’s where the week gets hectic and decisions must be made. Of course, Muses will have all of Lafayette Square fighting for shoes, but beyond that folks will have to choose between outside acts like 311, a guaranteed rowdy Mod Nite at Circle Bar and a local album release show by Static Static with the support of Silver Synthetic. Given that we’ve all heard “Down” a few too many times, we’re gonna give this one to the punks.
What: Silver Synthetic + Static Static
Where: Santos
When:  9 p.m.

Friday, February 21

Friday is dangerously full. NOLA partystarters People Museum and Murdertits hold down Carnaval Lounge, while Quintron throws his annual ball in the Spellcaster Lounge. Since we’ve kept it fairly local this week, we’re going to switch it up and give this night to EarthGang. The Atlanta oddballs are playing the House of Blues on their Welcome to Mirrorland tour.
What: EarthGang
Where: House of Blues
When: 8 p.m.

Saturday, February 22

Let’s get right back to local ish. It’s Carnival, after all. If you missed the opportunity to see Big Freedia play in the Music Box last week, catch her annual Freedia Gras set with HaSizzle on Saturday at One Eyed Jacks. That is, if you can pull yourself away from Endymion.
What: Big Freedia & HaSizzle
Where: One Eyed Jacks

Sunday, February 23

Complete a locals-themed week with a NOLA throwback bash. TT Tucker will be there, along with DJ Jimi, Ricky B and Partners N Crime. Why would you be anywhere else?
