Hot off the presses, here’s your fresh set of Weekly Wins! This week is all about moving and grooving. We’ve got plenty of ways for you to work hard, and then play hard, so grab your gym shoes and your dancing shoes and get out there!
Stretch Ya Brass: Sunset Yoga – Grab your mat and “find dat center” with this free community yoga session at City Putt (City Park) at 6:00pm. This all-levels class is brought to you by the Move Ya Brass, so you know it will just as fun as it is relaxing.
Free Pick Up Ultimate – Whether you’ve been playing ultimate for years or have only thrown a Frisbee at the beach, come join your Nola Fray Fam for Pick Up at Lafitte Greenway at 7:00pm! Bring a light and a dark shirt, a water bottle, and athletic shoes (cleats are recommended). We’ll provide cones and a game disc, though we encourage you to bring your own Frisbee if you’ve got one!
Jazz Fest Day Five – Thursday’s headliner is Widespread Panic. Other notable performers include Rita Coolidge, Tom Jones, Mavis Staples, and Ziggy Marley. See you at the Fair Grounds!
Yoga & Live Music: The Rolling Stones vs. Fleetwood Mac – The Church of Yoga invites all to a “night of celebration of what the Fest could have been!” Allie Porter will be playing Jazz Fest dropouts Rolling Stones and Fleetwood Mac hits during this flow class from 6:00pm – 7:15pm. The class is all-levels, so you can Go Your Own Way. Yoga plus Rock n’ Roll? That’s a combo sure to give plenty of Satisfaction!
Free Soccer Open Play – Whether you’ve been playing soccer for years or haven’t played since you were younger, come join our NOLA Fray crew for pick up at 7:00pm at Laffite Greenway! We’ll meet at the large multipurpose field on the Lafitte Greenway at 7pm, split up into teams, and take the field. We’ll provide all the soccer equipment!
Jazz Fest Day Six – Friday’s headliner is Chris Stapleton. Other notable performers include Gary Clark Jr., Kermit Ruffins & The Barbecue Swingers, Gladys Knight, and Los Lobos.
Hancock Whitney Zoo-To-Do – Already missing the Mardi Gras balls? You’re in luck! It’s time to break out your best black tie and head to the zoo for their most anticipated annual event. This fundraising gala features live music, including headliners The Main Attraction Band, cuisine from over 70 local restaurants, premium cocktails, a silent auction, and even a luxury car raffle, all against the beautiful, wild backdrop of the Audubon Zoo’s exhibits! See you at 8:00pm.
Freedia Fest – Back for its 8th year, CEG and Nolafunk present the NolaFunk Series During Jazz Fest at Republic NOLA (at 9:00pm), which “features a diverse collection of special performances from musicians inside and out of the New Orleans cultural sphere who all embrace the spirit and essence of the city.” Saturday’s event is the 4th Freedia Fest, a performance by the NOLA icon and Bounce legend herself, as well as Boyfriend, Khris Royal, and Dark Matter. The last three years all sold out, so be sure to get your tickets online soon!
Jazz Fest Day Seven – Saturday’s headliner is Dave Matthews Band. Other notable performers include Tank and the Bangas, Aaron Neville, Big Freedia, Pitbull, and Diana Ross.
Jammin’ on Julia 2019 – With performances by Bon Bon Vivant, Shawn Williams, DJ Hollagraham, and more, this celebration of art and music will have everyone jammin’! Take to the streets, Arts District on Julia Street to be exact, for art, music, food, and drink, and then stop into the numerous galleries for more art, music, food, and drinks from 6:00 – 11:00pm!
Chewbacchus’ May the Fourth – Celebrate Star Wars Day with the hard partying super nerds of the Intergalactic Krewe of Chewbacchus (lovingly known as Chubes) at The Dragon’s Den! At 9:00pm the Browncoat Brass and Companionettes will get you moving and grooving downstairs, then head upstairs at 10:00pm for a dance party of epic proportions led by DJ Legatron Prime. If you’re feeling extra spicy, arrive at 7:00pm and catch the Talk Nerdy To Me Burlesque show upstairs before the dance party.
Jazz Fest Day Eight – Sunday’s headliner is Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue with the Nevilles. Other notable performers include The Radiators, John Fogerty, Chaka Khan, Herbie Hancock, and Buddy Guy.
Cinco de Mayo Street Fiesta – It’s time to salt those rims- the margaritas are coming! Join Casa Borrega for an all day fiesta and celebration of Mexican culture starting at 11:00am. Expect delicious food and drink a plenty, and live music well into the night. Viva Mexico!
Crawfish de Mayo: A Swamp Carnival – Join the Krewe of Dystopian Paradise at NOLA Brewing for a Cinco de Mayo that is all New Orleans: “crawfish, all-you-can-drink-beer, costumes, music, and a Mardi Gras krewe party!” Dust off your favorite Carnival costume and get ready for carnival games, circus performances, face painting, water balloons, and even an all-ages bouncy castle. Oh, and did we mention crawfish and beer? Tickets available online. See you there from 2:00 – 7:00pm.
St. Roch Community Yard Sale – This free community event is held on the first Monday of every month at St. Roch Market Area from 12:00 – 5:00pm. Clear out some junk by setting up your own booth, or just peruse the myriad of treasures for sale from local artists, crafters, hoarders, and junkers. You can find everything from kitchenware to art to antiques to…junk!
Brewery Bingo – Mondays just got a whole lot better! Join your NOLA Fray fam in the Tasting Room of Port Orleans Brewing Company every Monday night at 7:00pm for Brewery Bingo. With free entry and multiple chances to win, you’ve got nothing to lose- sounds like a plan to us!
GiveNOLA Day at NOBL – Get your climb on at the New Orleans Boulder Lounge for a great cause! Half of all day pass sales will support LOOP NOLA, who provide outdoor adventure programs for local public school students. See you between 10:00am and 10:00pm.
Evanescence – Have you been asking yourself, “when will someone Bring Me To Life?” Well have no fear, Evanescence is coming to New Orleans! Relive the early 2000s with Amy Lee and her fellow Goth rockers as they play the soundtrack of all of your teenage emotions at The Saenger Theatre at 8:00pm. Tickets available online.
