Harry & The Potters LIVE at the Main Library

Fresh off their gig at the Yule Ball, Massachusetts based Harry & The Potters are bringing Wizard Rock to the Big Easy in a big way. “Witches, wizards, squibs and muggles of all ages are invited” to don their Wizarding World best and enjoy this free all-ages show, “where it’s ok to get loud in the Library.” ( New Orleans Public Libary // 6-7pm // Free)

Tinderbox: The Untold Story of the Upstairs Lounge Fire

“Buried for decades, the UpStairs Lounge tragedy has only recently emerged as a catalyzing event of the gay liberation movement.” Join the Friends of the Cabildo and author and journalist Robert W. Fieseler as he takes a deep dive into the history of this tragic fire that killed 31 people, and affected the entire city. Fieseler seeks to “restore honor to a forgotten generation of civil- rights martyrs,” in this free public lecture. ( New Orleans Jazz Museum // 6-7pm // Free)

HexFest 2019: A Weekend of Witchery in Old New Orleans

Double, double, toil and trouble! Something witchy this way comes. This weekend-long conference is open to all interested in a little magic and includes events like a Riverboat ritual and dinner, workshops, drumming, and a market full of ritual tools, books, jewelry, and handmade spellcrafts. Presenters from all over will be educating on various realms of witchcraft and magic, all in one of the city’s most haunted hotel, Tickets available online. New Orleans Salsa Bachata Festival 2019

Back for its third year, this festival is a can’t miss for dance fans! Spread over three separate ballrooms (that’s over 16,000 square feet of dance floor!) “features international Latin artists that will not only give world-class shows, but offer over 70 hours worth of workshops and classes, dance performance challenges, plus over 20 hours of out of this world social dancing.”Tickets available online. 2019 New Orleans Red Dress Run

Celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, Nola’s biggest running event is a little bit of running and a whole lot of partying! Organized by the local Hash House Harriers, Red Dress Run is a roughly 2-mi jaunt through The Marigny and French Quarter with beers in hand and plenty of stops at bars along the way to refill. Lunch is served at noon, followed by a killer party with live DJs and bands. The best part? All proceeds go to local charities. Registration open. 2019 Dirty Linen Night

Held the week after White Linen Night each year (this year marks the 19th annual!), Dirty Linen Night “invites participants to relish in everything dirty, and is one event that celebrates the not so pristine side of the French Quarter.” Enjoy all the best art, food, music, and culture the Quarter has to offer. Bonus points if you wear your unwashed white linens from last week! ( Royal Street (French Quarter) // 6-9pm // Free)


Sunday 08/11

610 Stompers Auditions

Have you always longingly coveted the red satin jackets and blue short shorts of Nola’s favorite all-male dance team? Now’s your chance to join the elite ranks of the 610 Stompers. The 2019 Class will once again be dancing through events all over the city, as well as the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. More interested in being in the audience? Auditions are open to the viewing public, so you can watch the spectacle beginning at 12:30 pm. (Harrah’s New Orleans // 12:30pm // Free) 


The Andy Dick Block Party

The Art Garage invites you to “come out for a night of local bands, comedy, food, and drinks!” You’ll dance, you’ll laugh, you’ll eat delicious Jambalaya and Bread Pudding. What’s not to love?
