Every Friday (or Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday) you gather on the field of battle, a well-oiled machine ready for domination.
Your chemistry is undeniable: you work as a seamless unit, each play an elaborate dance, supporting each other through victory after victory.
On these days, game days, you are not just teammates; you are a fellowship of athletic warriors. Or maybe you just like getting together, drinking beer, and playing a game with some cool people. In either case, the camaraderie doesn’t have to stop once you’re off the field.
There are plenty of awesome group activities around town to keep the party going for the rest of the week. #FrayLife is here with our guide for getting together off the field with your #NOLAFray squad.
Make a Great Escape
In the past few years, escape rooms have exploded across the country. There’s even a crappy horror movie featuring the popular activity (it was only a matter of time). New Orleans has three different escape room companies, so there’s an option for everyone. Escape My Room, the top-rated option, is located in the CBD and has four different rooms to choose from. Each room tells a different story about the secretive DeLaporte family, making this option the best choice for history buffs. Also in the CBD (with an additional location in Metairie), Clue Carré, the second-best-rated escape room, features five classic New Orleans–themed rooms, including the Voodoo Room and Carnival Heist. The third option, Mystère Escape Rooms, is located in Mid-City and is home of the Mortuary Haunted House during the Halloween season. Once used as an actual funeral home, the mansion is the perfect escape room for horror buffs, featuring five rooms, including Serial Killer’s Lair and Ghost Lab. Work together as a team to escape, and bring that teamwork to the field on game day!
Root, Root, Root for the Home Team
You already know how you play together; why not check out how the pros do it? New Orleans is home to plenty of pro and semi-pro sports teams, and attending a game and cheering for the home team is an exciting way to support our city. The Pelicans play NBA basketball from October through April (with playoffs lasting through June). The Baby Cakes play AAA baseball April through September. Of course everyone’s number one is the Saints, who play from September through December (with playoffs lasting into February). Tickets are pricey, but you can often snag deals on preseason games through Groupon. Looking for something a little different? Check out the New Orleans Jesters, who play in the National Premier Soccer League in the spring and summer. And don’t forget, the New Orleans Curse play Major League Quidditch from June through August (home games on June 29 and 30)!
Get Your Drank On
While drinking is an integral part of your regular #NOLAFray game-day routine, there are plenty of other excuses to get your drink on with your team during the rest of the week! Finn McCool’s Irish Pub and Pythian Market host pub trivia on Mondays, and Bayou Beer Garden hosts Trivia Tuesdays. Not good at remembering facts (especially when a few beers are involved)? Check out Brewery Bingo every Monday night at Port Orleans Brewing Co. Looking to get a little creative while you imbibe? Check out Paint and Jrink in Bywater or Craftsnola Paint Night at Sno-La Metairie, where you’ll get to paint, drink, and eat Cheesecake-Stuffed Snoballs. More into activity than creativity? Grab your teammates for a pedal bike barge cruise. BYOB (or buy from them) and pedal together to sail your bar/pontoon boat along the water for a one-of-a-kind experience!
Do Some Good
For a fun time that you can feel great about, harness your awesome teamwork skills into doing something good for the community! If you like to get your hands dirty, help build with Habitat for Humanity or garden in City Park. If you want to make some furry friends, help out at the Louisiana SPCA or Animal Rescue New Orleans. Not sure what kind of project you’d like to help with? Check out HandsOn New Orleans, which always has a bunch of different projects in the works and can match your team with the right opportunity.
Attend a Fray Event
You know we run awesome sports leagues and cover the coolest stuff in the city in our blog content, but did you also know NOLA Fray is also known for hosting some of the most fun events in the city?
